So the roller coasters at Cedar Point were really incredible – ‘frekin’ amazing’ in Peter’s words. The park itself was just like many others we had all been to. Plenty of ‘locals’ and your basic Old West theme with plenty of Snoopy and overpriced junk. As mentioned in the previous entry, our far and away favorite rides were the Top Thrill Dragster and the Millennium Force.
The Top Thrill Dragster is basically a rocket of a ride. Imagine splitting an Olympic running track in half at mid-field. Then prop up one side completely so that there is a 90 degree bank upward. The ride starts from a standstill and accelerates to 120mph in just under 4 seconds. The car is then shot on its own momentum up a 420-foot vertical climb. Riders then go over the top of the peak of the ride – most of the time. A sign warned that sometimes the car doesn’t have the momentum to make it over – see this Youtube clip.
And sometimes it gets STUCK at the TOP! Check out this video.
Here is a clip of what it looks like from the front car.
After a day of roller coasters – we were totally beat.
We went back to the hotel, inhaled some pizza, and quickly crashed. We woke up this morning and hit the road – after making a second trip to the Jolly Donut – our new favorite Sandusky area diner.
